The Best Christmas Sugar Cookies

Everyone’s favorite! Delicious Christmas Sugar Cookies

(Makes approximately 40 Christmas cut out sugar cookies)

This has been my family’s favorite sugar cookie recipe for years! We’ve used this recipe every year for our Christmas cookies for as long as I can remember and occasionally for Valentine’s Day cookies. We had a Christmas Sugar Cookie Baking Party every year with a bunch of friends growing up. It was crazy but so much fun! I definitely would recommend having cookie baking party. These cookies are also great to make with your kids. I recommend making the dough in advance. Then having your kids roll, cut out, and decorate the cookies! I’ve always enjoyed making them when I was younger (and still do). Last Christmas I made these cookies with my little brother for the first time and he loved the process of rolling them out. The only part he didn’t enjoy was decorating them. I know that sounds crazy, but he is a perfectionist and kept comparing them to mine even though his looked great.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs (room temperature)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/2 cup milk (room temperature)

  • 4 cups flour, plus extra for rolling the dough out

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon cream of tarter

Decorating Supplies

  • 2 cans of frosting

  • Christmas sprinkles

  • decorating syringe(optional)

  • Red, yellow, blue, & green food coloring

Step 1.

Mix the butter and sugar well. Then mix in eggs and vanilla. Stir in milk.

Step 2.

Add the flour on top of the wet ingredients, mix in baking soda, and cream of tartar.

Step 3.

Mix all ingredients until combined. The dough will be sticky, place in fridge for an hour.

Step 4.

Knead dough on floured surface until smooth.

Step 5.

Flour working surface. Roll out the dough with a floured rolling pin until you reach your desired thickness. Make sure you have plenty of extra flour to prevent sticking.

Step 6.

Flour cookie cutters and cut out an assortment of Christmas shapes.

Step 7.

Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until the bottoms of the cookies are golden.

Step 8.

Color the frosting with Christmas colored food coloring. Garnish with Christmas sprinkles. Enjoy!
