  1. Road to Avonlea

This tv series is one of my family’s all-time favorites. We spent a whole winter about 7 years ago binge watching the whole series. These continue to be some of our most rewatched episodes every year. Road to Avonlea is a heartwarming series for the whole family, you end up getting so wrapped up in the lives of the residents of Avonlea and the King family. The casting and acting are so well done!

4. Anne of Green Gables

The Anne of Green Gables 1985 miniseries is my all-time favorite! This is by far the best adaption I have ever watched; the characters are so believable. Avonlea will capture your hearts. The music and acting are excellent. The series is a yearly watch for my family!

2. Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel

3. Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story

(I recommend buying all the movies from Sullivan Entertainment because they are so worth the investment, but you can also rent each movie from Gazebo TV for $8)

Warning for readers: the first 2 movies do not follow the books perfectly, but embody Anne’s story and spirit, a timeless classic. The 3rd movie has nothing to do with books.

5. Sarah Plain and Tall

This is a very touching family story, and the casting is absolutely perfect. Glenn Close and Christopher Walken do beautiful job at bringing this love story to life. These movies are heartfelt and full of rural scenery of the quiet, but rough life of Kansas in the early 1900s.

These 3 movies come after the original series, but sadly the actor that plays Dr. MacNeill is the only returning main character, the rest of characters have replacements. Also, very few of the supporting actors and actresses are the same. These movies are still a great finish to the story.
